Wild Florida Rising: A Call to Action to Defend the Real Florida
It has become undeniably clear: our government is failing to protect the natural world. The responsibility to defend Florida’s ecosystems now falls into the hands of everyday people—citizens who are tired of watching our landscapes vanish in the name of unchecked development.
Across our state, residents are speaking out, pleading with officials and standing up to developers who see only profit where there should be preservation. But Florida does not belong to corporations. It belongs to its people, its wildlife, its trees, and its waters. The Real Florida—the one filled with native plants, insects, birds, animals, and thriving natural systems—is disappearing before our eyes.
This isn’t just about “climate change.” This is about survival. Whether or not you consider yourself an environmentalist, this affects you. Our air, our water, our health, and our very sense of place depend on what remains of the wild.
We are not asking anyone to pick a political side. The government has already made its position clear by favoring industry over the environment. What we are asking is simple: educate yourself. Look around. See how development is choking our ecosystems. See who benefits—and who suffers.
We need real reform, starting with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). When developers are sitting on the same boards meant to protect our natural areas, the system is broken beyond repair. Conservation must be about protection, not profit.
That’s why we urge you to support grassroots organizations—not government-funded agencies—and help fuel the fight to preserve what’s left. Together, we can stop further destruction, rewild our communities, and restore native trees and plants to abandoned lots and forgotten lands.
The time to act is now. The Real Florida depends on us.
